Last Day of Training

We started today with exciting news! Santa brought Xander a new pair of shoes. He was very excited! He put them on right away and hasn’t taken them off since!

It was the last full day of staff training today. I was busy finishing up cabin assignments, health forms and all of the paperwork for the first week. Staff were in the last few sessions of training, practicing songs and games, and busy completing projects around camp. The buildings and grounds look organized, neat and ready for kids!

Xander and Augustus (and Katie!) joined the staff on the field for games and songs.

At lunchtime, Mary told Xander the entire plot to one of the Star Wars movies. He was transfixed. He listened intently, while munching away on his lunch, every now and then asking, “and then what happened?” Mary might never get to eat lunch again if they keep sitting next to each other!

Augustus is sometimes a fabulous eater, and sometimes refuses to put a morsel of food into his mouth- tonight was one of those nights. Lucky for me, while he may refuse to let me help him, he gladly ate forkful after forkful from everyone else (including half of the veggies off Meghan’s plate). I was just happy he was eating.

After dinner, I finished up some projects, met with Meghan a few more times, paced around anxiously while reviewing several lists and took a few deep breaths. Katie took the boys to wash up, change into pjs and pack their toys. Because this weekend we are at Grandview Lodge with the advisors and families of Edward Jones. I have never missed Friday of staff training, and it was a hard choice not to be there. Meghan is fully capable of leading the day, but I really enjoy the final day of training, so I am sad to miss out. But there is a spouse’s meeting on Friday morning and it felt important to be here since Nate is new and we are excited for his new career.

So we packed up, fired up a dvd in the van and headed over. We are staying in a beautiful cabin and from what we saw, the whole resort is pretty gorgeous. So it should be a fun weekend! It’s not that different than being at camp, but much fancier and I’m not the one responsible for maintenance, staff, things that break, or anything else related to keeping the property running, so that’s exciting! Hopefully the camp I am responsible for is still as neat and in working order as when we left this evening!
