March has been an entire month of holidays. And maybe because of that, I’ve been extra busy, or maybe I’m losing it, but I’ve taken hardly any photos and haven’t updated our blog for a whole month! What’s gotten into me?! We’re here, we’re happy, we’re healthy, we’re busy.

The weather has been an insane yo yo of so unseasonably warm that we were walking to the park after dinner without coats. And then there was a snow storm and a snow day out of the blue.
The boys both hit major reading goals that we set in September and got to pick out prizes (pokemon cards). We’ve been busy playing games. Swimming has been on a 2 week break, so our schedule has been a bit more open than usual.

Last week, out of the blue, Xander said to me, “I think we should have a family movie night and watch the Eras Tour.” Enter the world of Swifties?! Count me in! We googled what Taylor Swift’s favorite food is, because Xander appreciates a theme! Chicken tenders. I was excited- we never eat chicken tenders for dinner but Xander was not excited at all. And then he was so conflicted- committed to a theme, but not interested in eating theme food… I suggested that probably Taylor also likes pizza and maybe we could have that instead. He was happy with that idea. We added some friendship bracelet fruit, special cocktails, and bracelet brownies to round out our theme.

March 14 is also known as Pie Day (3.14 in math is called Pi) and I am NOT going to miss the opportunity for a holiday! Kowalski’s grocery was all in on Pie day and there was a whole display of EVERY kind of pie.

St. Patrick’s Day came and our neighbors (Eric and Sarah) hosted a dinner to celebrate. They made the most amazing food (corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, a trifle). The kids played, the grown ups sipped cocktails, everyone ate, it was so nice! And then we went home and went to bed and woke up the next morning to discover, as tradition, a leprechaun came to our house and pulled some pranks. Our milk was green. Our toilet water was green. There were little green footprints on the floor. There we tiny little pots that had chocolate coins and actual gold dollar coins.

And then, the holiday everyone was waiting for- Easter. Gussie says it’s his favorite holiday (he really likes searching for eggs). We all agreed that 7am was a reasonable time to start the fun. However, at 4:50am a certain 6 year old whispered, “is it time?” and didn’t like it when I said, “it’s still the middle of the night”. He proceeded to wake up every 10 minutes until 6am when I sent him downstairs to hang with Xander. They were in X’s room when I got up at 7- they took it seriously when I told them not to look around and find all the eggs.
The boys had full baskets (mom and dad got to share a basket this year because the bunny was too tired to come up with 2 grown up baskets). There were 14 eggs as well as a giant egg for each boy. They found all of them and then spent the morning building legos and making rainbow loom bracelets.
Xander learned how to make rainbow loom bracelets when he was at his friend’s house. He came home and told me we needed to get a kit, and then the Easter bunny beat us to it! Amazing. He taught me how to do it too and then he was so cute because he liked making bracelets together, so all day, he kept saying, “do you want to make bracelets together?” Yes every time!
We ate bunny butt pancakes and then my mom, Danny and Heather, and 3 of my aunts came over for lunch. It was a really wonderful day of eating and relaxing. I love holidays and hosting and it was so nice to catch up with everyone. My mom brought the boys baskets. Danny brought Xander a LA Lakers Hat and Augustus a LA Galaxy flag from when he was in Los Angeles. My aunts brought candy for the boys. It was quite a day for them!

Today is the first official day of spring break and also April Fool’s Day! 2 years ago, I made cake pops, one of which was a brussel sprout dipped in chocolate. The next year, I took the ice cream off of a mini ice cream cone and replaced it with a brussel sprout, then re-dipped in chocolate. Once again, surprised Xander.
This year, I made chocolate dipped cakes (in the shape of flowers), one of which had a brussel sprout in the middle. I tried to tell the boys I didn’t have time to make a prank cake this year and instead, tried to trick them with “ice cream sundaes” for dinner (it was salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and gravy).
I’m not sure they really believed me, but they humored me. Xander reached for the tulip without me even trying to sway him, bit into it, and on the second bite, found the brussel sprout. I’m going to have to get sneakier next year.

And with that, we’ve concluded a March month of holiday fun. Welcome to April.
